Mercury
Group/Family of Mercury
Mercury belongs to the Group/Family of Transition Metals. Located in the middle of the periodic table transition metals break the pattern of having the same number of valence electrons in each colomn but they do follow the trend of become steadily more unstable and reactive as they move further to the left of the table. In general transition metals are fairly stable and react slowly. They are generally hard, shiny and are all good conductors. Mercury is the only transition metal to be found as a liquid in room temperature all the others are found as solids.
